HUC.IO Matchmaking event – Invitation for students
Research internships are an excellent opportunity to foster scientific collaboration and international academic experiences. The Hemispheric University Consortium (HUC) provides an ideal platform to connect professors, researchers, and students from HUC universities across the continent.
The goal of this HUC.IO Matchmaking event is to facilitate this establishment of contacts, with the intention of:
- Conducting virtual research internships / stays.
- Collaborating as research assistants.
- Participating as data collectors abroad (e.g. for multi-country projects).
- Contacts for future projects and graduate studies.
We want to invite professors, researchers, and students from all disciplines and academic levels to get together in the online matchmaking event that will take place on June 16, 2021, from 2 – 3:30 p.m. GMT -5, to discover opportunities for collaboration through virtual research internships in 2021 in our Hemispheric University Consortium.
If you are unable to join us in this event on this date, please read on to find other possibilities for asynchronous matchmaking.
Virtual research internships:
- In 2021, we will proceed with virtual internships. In future editions, we want to consider also in-person internships.
- Both for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Different areas of knowledge.
- Ideally beneficial for both professors and students (relevant topics and projects).
Explore the projects gallery below to find a virtual research internship of interest. Click on each card to read all the details, including a project description, expected workload, requirements, languages, and conditions.
A Green icon means that the professor will present the project live during the matchmaking event on June 16. There is the possibility to interact directly with the professor during this event.
A blue icon means that the professor is available for asynchronous matchmaking. We will share the information of interested students with the professor to continue with the process.
Please do not contact the professors directly at this stage.
Note: in case you cannot see the project gallery bellow, please click on this link to visit it, and then return to this page to register for any project of interest.
Matchmaking event for virtual research internships – Mechanism:
During the matchmaking event, we will present interested students the overall process to conduct virtual research internships.
Additionally, some professors will present their projects live and will have the possibility of engaging directly with interested students in a parallel breakout session.
Those professors who are not available to present live during this Matchmaking event, will receive the information of students that registered their interest to continue with the process.
After this matchmaking, we ask students to confirm their interest by completing an online application. Each host university, together with the professor, will then select the student(s) that will conduct the internships, according to the internal procedures and conditions.
This event will take place online on June 16, 2021 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. GMT -5.
Invitation for students: Open until June 11.
Matchmaking Event: June 16, 2:00 p.m. GMT -5.
Application period for students: June 16 – June 30.
Virtual internships: second half of 2021.
Virtual research internships – General conditions:
The exact conditions of these virtual research internships will be determined at a later stage, depending both on the host institution (the professor/researcher) and the home institution (the student). It is up to the discretion of each student’s home institution as to whether the internship is recognized as part of the individual student’s course load or in the form of academic credits.
